On Wednesday, at the meeting of the National Broadcasting Council, the National Broadcasting Council decided to extend these licenses for 10 years.

The license for TVN Style, which ended in July, was extended by the National Broadcasting Council only in mid-June. In September, the Provincial Administrative Court imposed a fine of PLN 60,000 on the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council, Maciej Świrski. PLN fine. The head of the National Broadcasting Council was punished for “gross and obvious inaction” in extending the TVN Style satellite license. The head of the National Broadcasting Council filed a cassation appeal against the judgment of the Provincial Administrative Court regarding the fine imposed on him.

Previously, the process of relicensing the HGTV station took a long time. In the previous term, the National Broadcasting Council considered applications for extending the consent to broadcast TVN24 and TVN7 until almost the end of the license. The extension of the licensing proceedings for TVN and Agora is one of the allegations included in the motion of the Civic Coalition MPs to bring the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council before the State Tribunal.
The Great TV License Caper: A Spectacle of Delays and Fines
Grab your popcorn folks! We’ve got a real nail-biter on our hands as the National Broadcasting Council is at it again—like a cat on a hot tin roof, just trying to find the right moment to jump! So, it seems that TVN International Extra will be valid until January 22, 2025, and TVN Fabuła until March 15, 2025. Meanwhile, our beloved Radio Złote Przeboje 92.8 FM from Tarnów is licensed until January 15, 2025. Three cheers for bureaucracy!
But wait! During a *thrilling* meeting—one that surely kept the coffee flowing—the council decided to extend these licenses for a marvellous ten years. That’s right, folks: ten years of the same shows that make you wonder if you’ve time-traveled back to 2005! At least now you can kick back and enjoy reruns without worrying about the impending doom of another license expiration. Who knows? Maybe they’ll throw in some bonus DVDs, too!
However, let’s take a moment to appreciate the twists and turns that led us here. The regulator was supposed to consider this little bureaucratic tickle earlier but—surprise, surprise!—the agenda was shuffled like a deck of cards at a magician’s convention. Our lead magician, Prof. Tadeusz Kowalski, is likely wondering why this pantomime needed a sequel.
Past Blunders: A Comedy of Errors
And if you thought that was the peak of our drama, let me remind you about the licensing escapade of TVN Style. The council only extended its license after it expired in July, and they got around to it in June—because who doesn’t enjoy that last-minute thrill? Almost as if they’re riding a rollercoaster for the first time! To top it all off, chairman Maciej Świrski got hit with a bit of a slap on the wrist in the form of a PLN 60,000 fine. Why? For “gross and obvious inaction.” I guess that’s one way to build suspense!
But don’t worry about Mr. Świrski—he’s appealing this decision. Because nothing says “I take my responsibilities seriously” quite like trying to dodge a fine, right? Meanwhile, the broadcast world is holding its breath, wondering if their favorite shows might just evaporate into thin air like this season’s fashion trends.
The Road Ahead: Hold Your Hoots and Hollers
In what feels like a never-ending soap opera, the relicensing process for HGTV, among others, has turned into a real cliffhanger. Will they get the license? Will they be canceled? The answers seem as elusive as finding a good cup of coffee in a gas station! No wonder the Civic Coalition MPs are looking to bring the chairman before the State Tribunal. I mean, why not add courtroom drama to the mix? It’s about time reality TV had a few more twists.
In Conclusion: More Laughs than Broadcasts
So, dear readers, as we navigate through this tangled web of licenses, fines, and regulatory whimsy, remember: while the councils may be acting like reluctant phantoms in a haunted house, laughing out loud at this circus can make navigating these bureaucratic mazes a tad bit easier. Here’s to ten more years of… well, whatever it is TVN and Agora have to offer. Let’s just hope it’s more entertaining than the licensing process!
First time, holding on for dear life! But wait—there’s more! The chairman of the National Broadcasting Council, Maciej Świrski, faced a slap on the wrist in the form of a PLN 60,000 fine for his “gross and obvious inaction” regarding this very extension. How’s that for a plot twist? He swiftly filed a cassation appeal against the judgment, proving that in the world of broadcasting, drama comes with a side of legal wrangling.
For those keeping score at home, let’s not forget about the prolonged relicensing of HGTV and the saga that was the re-authorization of TVN24 and TVN7, which stretched precariously close to their expiration dates. The Civic Coalition MPs are even raising eyebrows and questions—hoping to drag the National Broadcasting Council chairman before the State Tribunal. Maybe they’re hoping for an encore performance of this administrative theater!
Tuning into the Future
As we glance into the future, one can’t help but wonder: will future license renewals be any smoother? Or is this just the beginning of an ongoing saga of bureaucratic escapades in the broadcasting realm? One thing is for certain—the audience will remain on the edge of their seats, popcorn in hand, eagerly awaiting the next gripping episode in the adventures of the National Broadcasting Council. Will they rise to the occasion or continue to stumble through this exhilarating maze of regulations and fines? Only time will tell!
