Apple is expected to launch its larger 15.5-inch MacBook Air at its WWDC 2023 event. While the event will be mostly about iOS 17, watchOS 10, macOS 10 and other software updates, the company will see fit to announce new material as well. We previously reported that the company is working on a new version of the MacBook Air with a bigger screen. Today we learn that Apple’s 15.5-inch MacBook Air will be equipped with the M2 chipand the M2 Pro chip is out of the question for now.

In terms of design, the 15.5-inch MacBook Air will feature the same overall look. Apple had redesigned the MacBook Air last year in June by reducing the bezels and introducing a notch on the screen. The company is now planning to add a new model to its range, with a larger 15.5-inch screen. This will allow the company to streamline the product line as M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro models.

When it comes to internals, it was initially reported that the 15.5-inch MacBook Air would be equipped with an M2 chip and an M2 Pro chip. While concrete details were scarce, the prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo say today that the company will abandon the M2 Pro chip in favor of the M2 chip. This means that the next MacBook Air will have more or less the same performance as the 13.6-inch version.

The 15.5-inch MacBook Air’s M2 chip will come in two options, like the 13.6-inch version. If the news has any weight, we’ll see the M2 chip with either an 8 or 10-core GPU. It should be noted that the M2 chip was an attractive upgrade over the original M1 chip, as it offered increased computing and graphics capabilities. As for the M2 Pro chip, Apple may see fit to introduce it in future versions of the device.

Apple’s M3 chip is in development and will go into mass production later this year. This means that an M3 chip could appear on the 13.6 and 15.5 inch models of the MacBook Air. As previously reported, the company may launch the larger MacBook Air at its WWDC event, alongside software updates.
