Central – The Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi, met King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, in the presence of Crown Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah, accompanied by Chargé d’Affaires of the Lebanese Embassy, Ambassador Youssef Raji, Chargé d’Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature, Monsignor Mauro Lali, Priest of Saint Charbel’s Maronite parish in Amman, Rev. Joseph Sweid and lawyer Walid Ghayyad. .
The meeting dealt, according to the Jordanian news agency “Petra”, “the fraternal relations that bind Jordan and Lebanon and the two brotherly peoples.”
King Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan’s standing and continuous support for Lebanon in its efforts to overcome the crises facing it, pointing out that Jordan will continue to make every effort to take care of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem out of the Hashemite guardianship over it.
For his part, Patriarch Al-Rahi praised “Jordan’s stances, led by King Abdullah, in continuous support for Lebanon, its people, and Arab causes,” praising “the humanitarian and medical aid that Jordan sent directly following the Beirut port explosion nearly two years ago.”
Al-Rahi saw that “Lebanon suffers from the lack of an authority capable of decisiveness, which has generated powers and people of influence and the sharing of powers, and bears a great economic burden, and its identity is threatened and its demography is changing due to the presence of half a million Palestinians and a million and a half Syrians on its land.”
Al-Rahi called on Jordan to “convene an international conference under the auspices of the United Nations dealing with the implementation of Taif in letter and spirit and the three Security Council resolutions 1680, 1559 and 1701 to solve the Syrian refugee crisis and the Palestinian cause and declaring Lebanon’s neutrality.”
