At the end of 2022, Apple is offering a new update for iOS 16 which goes to 16.2. This new version of iPhone OS comes in a full update package, including iPadOS 16.1 for iPad, watchOS 9.2 for Apple Watch, tvOS 16.2 for Apple TV and macOS 13.1 Ventura for Mac.

If you have followed us throughout the iOS 16.2 test phase which started on October 25, you know that the software comes with beautiful novelties. We have not stopped describing and dissecting them in our columns for weeks, as they arrive in the various system test publications. To see more clearly, and at the dawn of the launch of iOS 16.2 precisely, let’s go back to the the most important new features offered by Apple on iPhone, iPad, but also Apple Watch and Apple TV.

Freeform

Apple does not launch a new application every month, that’s why the arrival of Freeform is an event. This is a new home application that the Californian firm presented to us at the WWDC 2022 conference. It wants to revolutionize note taking and is part of a trend seeing more and more applications appear with the idea of changing the way we create documents on mobiles and PCs.

To put it simply, in Freeform you are faced with a large white sheet where you can insert different content, text, drawings, video, PDF, etc., with a great freedom. Furthermore, the teamwork is appropriate.

Freeform is compatible with iPhone, iPad, but also Mac.

Live Activities Widgets

This is another novelty already announced by the Cupertino company, but still unavailable on iPhone. This is the functionality Live Activities for the locked screen. Since iOS 16, it is possible to customize your locked screen, as seen there in detail. Many widgets can be added at the top of the screen. The bottom of the screen is from the start reserved for notifications and Live Activities. This one wants to make it possible to display information updated automatically and dependent on certain applications. Thus, you can find football match scores, tracking of the delivery of your current order on Uber Eats, the itinerary for a trip with navigation aid, etc.

Live Activities therefore arrives well in iOS 16.2, to go even further with the locked screen.

iCloud end-to-end encryption

Prior to iOS 16.2, not all iCloud data was end-to-end encrypted. This was also one of the reasons why Apple was widely criticized in terms of the protection of private data. Good for watchOS 9.2 and tvOS 16.2
