External storage such as USB memory or portable SSD is useful for moving large files or backing up important files. Western Digital’s portable SSD “WD Elements SE SSD” is small, lightweight, large capacity, and has the durability to withstand a drop of 2 meters. Western Digital provided me with such a WD Elements SE SSD as a prize for a reader giveaway in December 2023, so I checked the appearance and measured the data transfer speed.

WD Elements SE SSD is available in three capacities: 480GB, 1TB, and 2TB. This time I will use the 2TB version. The package looks like this.

Inside the box was the WD Elements SE SSD itself, a USB cable, and a manual. The side of the USB cable that is inserted into the WD Elements SE SSD is USB Micro B, and the side that is inserted into a PC, etc. is USB Type A.

WD Elements SE SSD looks like this. The Western Digital logo is written on the top left.

On the back side, the capacity and model name were written.

The connection terminal is USB Micro B.

The dimensions of the WD Elements SE SSD are 64.5mm long x 64.5mm wide x 8.72mm thick. To make the size easier to understand, it looks like this when lined up with iPhone 12 with a long side of 146.7 mm.

The actual weight was 27g.

Because it is small and lightweight, it can be carried easily even in a small bag.

It fits perfectly in your chest pocket or pants pocket.

When I checked the free space in Windows properties, it was 1.81TB.

CrystalDiskInfoWhen you check the supported standards and supported functions, it looks like this.

CrystalDiskMarkBelow are the results of measuring the transfer speed. Sequential read is 446.01MB/s, sequential write is 229.97MB/s. Random reads were 26.77MB/s and random writes were 6.73MB/s.

Next, to check the transfer speed in an actual usage environment, I created a folder on my PC containing 208 images with a total capacity of 1.46GB.

Copy all the images in the created folder to the WD Elements SE SSD and measure the time it takes to copy with a stopwatch.

It took 10.22 seconds to copy 208 images, totaling 1.46GB.
