The National Conference on the problems and challenges of financing education was held from September 20 to 22, 2023 in Kaloum. For three days, actors and experts from the education system met, with the support of the President of the Transition who wishes to make education a priority of current governance.
Many public authorities were present, such as Bernard Goumou, Prime Minister, the ministers of Pre-university Education and Literacy, Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Energy, of Hydraulics and Hydrocarbons, as well as Aboubacar Cissé, Director General of ANAFE (National Agency for Education Financing). Civil society actors, such as the NGO UNICEF also took part in the numerous panels organized, recalling that many children do not have access to quality education and learning in the country. Several private companies were also present to demonstrate their commitment to an efficient and inclusive education system.
As an economic actor and the leading sector contributing to the country’s GDP, the mining sector also has its role to play in training, supporting and removing barriers to access to education for young Guineans so that they can access professional opportunities.
Aware of this major issue, Winning Consortium Simandou actively participated in the Conference. During his speech, Alpha Oumar Camara, Director of Human Resources of the Consortium, declared that “by being a partner of this conference alongside the National Education Finance Agency (ANAFE), Winning Consortium Simandou reaffirms its commitment in favor of inclusive education. Our objective is to enable the transfer of skills to create a pool of talented Guineans, a real key to the socio-economic development of Guinea. Education constitutes a real issue for future generations and for the future of the country. We are therefore committed to strengthening the capacities of Guinean human capital and guaranteeing empowerment through training. »
Winning Consortium Simandou has indeed strengthened its commitment to Guinean youth, through a series of concrete actions in recent years. In March 2023, WCS partnered with the National External Scholarship Service (SNABE) to support vulnerable students with disabilities in their education, through the provision of social scholarships. The Consortium also more recently, in May 2023, concluded a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Technical Education, Vocational Training and Employment (METFPE) of the Republic of Guinea.
“WCS actively cooperates with the ministry for the training of Guinean trainers, the construction of new educational infrastructures, the networking of Technical Education, Vocational Training and Employment Institutions, and the intensification of study trips and research in Guinea,” said Alpha Oumar Camara in his speech.
He concluded his speech by adding that “the presence of the Consortium testifies to its commitment to well-trained, competent Guinean youth ready to contribute to the prosperity of Guinea. »
