In the first period, the Slovaks were more active in shooting, but the Germans came close to scoring right from the start. However, goalkeeper Škorvánek, who will defend the colors of Hradec Králové next season, faced the dangerous situation with a clean slate. In the 6th minute, the pole helped him. The Slovaks also had a promising chance, but Sukeloba’s shot was blocked by Grubauer.

After several missed opportunities on both sides, the score varied only in numerical advantages. Sukel and Čerešňák met on the penalty bench and the Germans took advantage of a long five-on-three power play. After a prompt stop, Kahun prevailed.

The 87th edition of the Ice Hockey World Championship takes place from 10 to 26 May 2024 in the Czech Republic, the tournament will be divided between the cities of Prague and Ostrava.

The Slovakian team tried to invalidate the Czech native’s goal with a so-called coach’s call with reference to illegal blocking by the goalkeeper. But they did not succeed with the judges, so they continued to play in threes. Coach Ramsay’s wards got a kick out of the unpleasant directive. Hrivik cut down with a shot from an angle and Fehérváry equalized in the 39th minute. The Germans took the lead back in the second period, 29 seconds before going to the cabins, Škorvánek surprised Kälble from the blue line.

In the 45th minute, Germany was brought closer to victory by Michaelis, who was stopped by the Slovakian defense. When Tiffels was sent off, Grubauer was beaten for the second time by an emphatic Hrivik, but his goal was invalid following checking the video. Čeresňák lost the puck on the blue line into the middle zone.

Five minutes before the end of regular time, Slovakia managed to reduce the score to 3:4, when Hudáček came through following Slafkovský’s action. But the Germans responded quickly and Pföderl restored their two-goal lead.

During the Slovakian power play, Eder prevailed, Sukel had the last word 15 seconds before the end.
