WB-Mitterer: Solutions are needed to prevent medical professionals from leaving after their studies

Vienna (OTS) – “We are very proud that Austria is one of the most attractive university countries and is particularly popular with international students. But that also brings with it an imbalance that can lead to disadvantages in domestic healthcare, especially in the medical sector. Many of the doctors trained here go back to their home countries following their studies instead of working in Austria. Even though the Austrian Health Fund has already taken a sensible step here and awards medical scholarships in which the scholarship holders commit to five years of work in the health insurance fund in return, it is still necessary further innovative solutions so that more doctors stay in Austria. I therefore very much welcome Federal Minister Polaschek’s initiative, which has raised the issue to the European level. If doctors are being trained at our universities, we should do everything we can to keep them here.” said Moritz Mitterer, chairman of the employer curia at the ÖGK general meeting and federal managing director of the business association.
