Asunción, IP Agency.- The National Logistics Council is preparing to announce an investment from the national and international private sector to provide a “definitive solution” to the most difficult steps of the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway.
“A coordinated work with the private sector that will ensure that the Hidrovía is that highway that we need for our exports,” reported the Minister of Industry and Commerce (MIC), Javier Giménez, during the session of the Council of Ministers this Monday.
It is expected to provide a definitive solution to 19 steps, characterized by the presence of stones, he explained. At the moment, the Ministry of the Environment “is filing stones that affect navigation” in one of the most difficult passes, that of Remanso-Castillo, added Giménez.
With these works, it is expected that the waterway will increase the volume of merchandise passage by five times. “This will create impressive growth in the shipping industry, shipyards and cargo volume never before seen in Paraguay.”
«The best of all, president, is that this is not going to cost the country a peso. “This is going to be a donation effort from the international and national private sector,” the minister reported.
As well as the Minister of Industry and Commerce, other members of President Santiago Peña’s cabinet presented their respective management reports this Monday. Progress is highlighted in terms of security, public works, health, Job creation, education, improvement of public spending, assistance to womenamong other areas.
