The problems caused by the lack of water in the mountainous villages of Kalavryta are enormous, where this year it snowed little while it hardly rained at all.
A typical example is the village of Gerbesi, located at an altitude of 1050 meters, in Kalavrita where the water, because of water shortageis running out and the residents fill their water bottles from a single source.
“We don’t have water here. There is no water neither to irrigate, nor to wash, nor to extinguish the adjacent mountain” said a resident regarding the situation prevailing in the area.
What residents of Kalavryta say
“A tap produces drinking water and the quantity is relatively small. The only borehole in the village does not produce water, so we are facing a serious problem,” notes another resident.
“We don’t waste water at home. We don’t wash anything, we don’t water, we only use it to bathe and wash our clothes,” added another person who lives in the area.
