Asunción, IP Agency.- The Commission of Works, Public Services and Communications of the Chamber of Deputies, ruled in favor of the bill for the financing of potable water and sanitation works for the metropolitan area of Ciudad del Este.
This is the project “Approving loan contracts No. 4,913/OC-RG, signed between the Republic of Paraguay and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), for a total amount of up to USD 115,000,000, on August 2020, and with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), for an amount of up to JPY 9,130,000,000, on August 27, 2020, for the financing of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Project for the Metropolitan Area of Ciudad del Este, in charge of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC).
In this way, like the bill for the Lambaré basin, which this week had a fictitious sanction, the parliamentary agreement for the financing of these works is one step away from being achieved. Now the issue must be discussed in plenary for approval.
The objective of the initiative is to preserve the water resources of the Paraná River and the Guaraní Aquifer, and improve the quality of life of the population of the Ciudad de Este and Presidente Franco districts, directly benefiting nearly 250,000 compatriots.
It is estimated that only 24 percent of the population of Ciudad del Este has access to drinking water supplied by Essap and Itaipu Binacional. That represents some 80,000 people, approximately, of the total of 400,000 who live in the tenth department, reported the MOPC.
