Top: in Isère, Soitec improves its water consumption

On its Bernin (Isère) sites, the semiconductor manufacturer Soitec has deployed a water recycling solution presented as unique in Europe. Using sensors and a monitoring system, the chemical composition of the water leaving the rinsing machines is controlled to reinject it into the circuit, in an industry known for its high consumption.

An innovation which required three years of development, and which made it possible to increase the water recycling rate from 19% in 2023 to 34% in 2024. Water consumption per silicon wafer produced has fallen, according to Soitec, by 30% between 2021 and 2023.

Flop: Stellantis scales back in Mulhouse

The night team at the Stellantis site in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin) is no longer. This will be eliminated, two years following his return, from March 4, 2024. 650 people will be affected, out of a total of 4,250 employees and 1,700 temporary workers. Night employees on permanent contracts (CDI) will join the daytime workforce, while temporary workers will not be renewed.

The geopolitical situation, the reduction or cessation of subsidies in Europe in the electric and hybrid vehicle segment, and price competition are cited by the automobile manufacturer, which nevertheless maintains the hiring of 112 permanent employees this year.
