Watching Johnny Depp’s Career Revival After Winning Over Amber Heard

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Victory Johnny Depp above Amber Heard in the case of defamation will be a new chapter for Depp’s career in the Hollywood industry.

After his career was shattered by Heard’s opinion piece in the Washington Post in 2018, Depp now gets a chance to rebuild his career thanks to a court victory.

However, Depp’s potential revival in the Hollywood industry is still a question mark. Experts and Hollywood practitioners have mixed views regarding the fate of the actor following getting his life back.

University of Southern California professor Karen North said there would still be studios willing to work with Johnny Depp. North, who specializes in reputation management, thinks Depp has a good track record for box office films.

“I think there are several studios that are willing to work with him at the moment. He’s almost always very good for the box office,” said Karen North quoted by AFP released on Wednesday (1/6).

In addition, North also sees Depp as an actor with a strong ‘bad boy’ image. This makes Depp’s tendency towards alcohol seem “natural” because so far he has never had the image of an innocent person.

“When someone’s pretty bad boy, when they’re accused of something that involves instability, people are like, ‘Well, I’m not surprised – it doesn’t change my perception of that person,'” North said.

“I think Johnny Depp will come back personally, that makes sense,” North said. “That’s assuming he wants to, right? He has plenty of options.”

A different view comes from a Hollywood producer who has worked with Johnny Depp in the past. The producer, who declined to be named, feels that Depp will find it difficult to get a role at the box office.
