The mythical America’s Cup will take place in September and October 2024, where the best sailors in the world compete. Contrary to tradition and the rules of the oldest nautical trophy, it will not take place at the New Zealand winners of the previous edition, but near the coast of Barcelona. An opportunity to follow the prestigious competition without having to cross the planet and to admire more closely the future hand-to-hand battles of the AC75, the most exciting inshore sailboats invented by man. Among them, the boat of the Italian sailing team Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, of which Panerai is the official sponsor. “Our collaboration represents the union of two brands that share the same spirit of innovation, passion for excellence and love of the sea,” explains CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué.
Founded in Florence in 1860, the watchmaker was for a long time the supplier of precision instruments to the Italian Navy. Among others, the Luminor and Radiomir watches, protected by military secrecy until the takeover of Panerai by the Richemont group and its installation in Switzerland. Today, the brand develops and produces its own mechanical movements in its manufacture in Neuchâtel. While the modern heroes of the Italian team are already preparing for the 37th America’s Cup, Panerai supports them with the presentation of a new Luminor Luna Rossa collection. Five timepieces combine, in a lifestyle style, the strong identity of the Luminors, the adrenaline of regattas and the aesthetic codes of the nautical team, where the color red dominates. In addition to the famous crown protector, each wears, as a tribute, a gleaming small seconds hand at 9 o’clock and a strap (easily interchangeable) enlivened by the red band of the Luna Rossa logo.
In terms of performance, the P.900 caliber offers a comfortable three-day power reserve. Perfectly suited to versatile use, the Luminor Luna Rossa Quaranta impresses with the elegance of its sunray-brushed blue dial in a 40 mm black DLC-coated steel case. Ideal for travelers, the steel Luminor Luna Rossa Quaranta Bitempo is almost identical, except for the red tip of its GMT hand which indicates a second time zone. The luminosity of the steel and the freshness of a white dial are all the charm of the Luminor Due Luna Rossa 38 mm and 42 mm, dressed respectively in a white Saffiano leather strap and a gray dual-material strap. Their water resistance of 3 Bar, however, makes them more suitable for facing admiring glances than the waves.
Resolutely technical and exclusive, the Luminor Chrono Carbotech Luna Rossa Experience 44 mm is produced in 37 pieces. Forged in Carbotech, an ultra-resistant alloy of carbon fiber and high-tech polymer, this singular chronograph offers buyers the privilege of discovering various activities and workshops related to sailing in the company of sailors from the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team. All planned in Cagliari, Sardinia. Max Sirena, team manager and skipper of the yacht: “During the 37th America’s Cup, this timepiece will be the essential companion on our journey to success. »
