In a video from Unbox Therapy, you can watch an iPhone charging on a prototype Apple Air Power. However, the wireless charger is considered so dangerous that it cannot be used for more than a minute.
The AirPower is arguably one of Apple’s biggest disappointments. This accessory has the very rare distinction of having been canceled by the Apple firm following being officially presented to the public. This oblong support supposed to wirelessly charge up to three devices at a time (iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch) has never been able to reach the level of security necessary to be marketed.
However, since the cancellation of AirPower, a functional prototype has already been found and rumors are rife regarding wireless charger projects at Apple. Recently, the Unbox Therapy YouTube channel has returned to bring this subject back to the fore. Videographer Lewis Hilsenteger was indeed able to receive an AirPower fairly close to what the final version should have been – except for the fact that the device lacks the white plastic coating shown in the official renders.

A dangerous prototype to handle
In his video, Unbox Therapy manipulates the AirPower, but he takes a lot of precautions. He explains that he received a lot of instructions from the person who sent him the prototype. For example, he can only use a single zone of the charging pad, whereas one of the strengths of this wireless charger was precisely to be able to put his iPhone anywhere to regain battery power.
Even more disturbing as a caveat: he can only use it for a maximum of one minute if he wants to avoid damaging this AirPower. He must also let the charger cool down for five minutes followingwards.
On the other hand, Unbox Therapy welcomes the fact that once the iPhone is placed on this AirPower, the phone remains constantly charged. There are no interruptions unlike other prototypes he has seen, he explains.
Future announcements from Apple around wireless charging are to be watched closely. Because if iPhone 15 should adopt USB-C chargerthe apple would think to quickly switch to a 100% wireless smartphone. For this future to materialize, we must ensure that we have the right chargers.
