The official Anadolu Agency quoted the disaster management as announcing that an earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale was recorded, and then another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 in Samandag, in the southern Turkish province.

Anadolu Agency quoted Turkish Vice President Fuad Aktay as saying that at least eight people were injured by the two earthquakes in Hatay.

Aktay added in a press conference that the first earthquake occurred in the Dafna Bahtay area, and was followed by 20 aftershocks.

The Turkish Vice President appealed to all citizens not to go or enter buildings in the cities affected by the earthquake.

And TRT TV reported that air traffic was halted at Hatay Airport and buildings collapsed in the province due to the two quakes.

And the Anadolu Agency quoted AFAD withdrew a warning it had issued earlier about the danger of sea level rise as a result of the earthquakes.

On the other hand, the Syrian National Seismological Center announced that it had recorded a 6.3-magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter located in the northwest of the country, near the border with Turkey.

The Syrian Ministry of Information said that the earthquake was felt by residents of a number of the country’s governorates.

And the Syrian Civil Defense Organization (the White Helmets) announced that injuries occurred in the town of Jenderes, north of Aleppo, as a result of falling stones, jumping from high buildings, and stampedes.

The humanitarian organization reported on Twitter the collapse of two uninhabited cracked buildings and the minaret of a mosque, in addition to a number of cracked buildings west of Idlib, without causing any injuries.

The organization, which operates in opposition-held areas in Syria, reported the collapse of the walls and balconies of houses in several cities and towns in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib.

And the Syrian News Agency, quoting a medical source in Aleppo University Hospital, reported that six injured people had arrived due to stones falling from buildings as a result of the earthquake.

The agency quoted a fire brigade commander in Lattakia as saying that there are no reports of damage to buildings so far as a result of the earthquake.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that a state of panic broke out among the citizens and they took to the streets, following the severe earthquake felt by the residents of the northwestern regions of the country and the governorates of Latakia, Hama and Aleppo.

The Observatory described the recent earthquake as the “most violent” after the current February 6 earthquake, which struck northwestern Syria and southern Turkey, killing and injuring tens of thousands of people.
