The number of deaths in the accident and explosion of a poison gas tank in the industrial port of Aqaba has risen to 10, and more than 251 others have been injured as a result of the leakage of toxic gas until the moment of preparing this report, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate. A video published by the official Jordanian channel “Al-Mamlaka” showed the moment of the accident.
In his statement, the spokesman for the Directorate, Amer Al-Sartawi, indicated that “the specialists and the hazardous materials team in the Civil Defense are currently dealing with the incident of the laurel leak in the port of Aqaba.”
The spokesman had said earlier, “During the daily work in the port of Aqaba, an accident occurred when a tanker filled with a toxic gaseous substance fell during its transportation, which led to a gas leakage at the site.”
The authorities evacuated the southern beach in the Aqaba governorate, on Monday, following toxic gas leaked from a tank, according to the official “Al-Mamlaka” channel.
Al-Mamlaka explained that the ship in which the leak occurred, a tank containing toxic gases fell from it.
The location of the poison gas leak is located far from residential areas in Aqaba, according to Al-Mamlaka.
The injured were transferred to the field hospital in Aqaba.
