Footage widely circulated on social media showed football star Samuel Eto’o, current president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, attacking a man outside the stadium during the World Cup in Qatar.
The clip begins with scenes of the former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea striker leaving Stadium 974 in Doha, following The end of the match between Brazil and South Korea in the round of 16 match. Eto’o seemed happy to take pictures with the waiting fans as he made his way out of the venue, before a man with a camera approached him from the right.
According to the clip taken by La Opinion, the footage shows what appears to be a dialogue between the two men, before the video cuts off a few seconds following that, and Ito returns following that, completely losing his temper, and starts kicking the man.
Many of those around him intervened to try to break up the engagement, but Ito seemed determined to chase the man down and confront him. The clip showed some men trying to push Eto’o back, but he gave his phone to a man on his side, before attacking the photographer and kicking him in the face and knocking him to the ground.
It was not clear why the outrage swept Eto’o, who is in Qatar as an ambassador for the legacy of the 2022 World Cup, which prompted him to attack the photographer fiercely before kicking him in the face.
The newspaper “La Opinion” reported that Eto’o was asked regarding what happened by journalists, but he seemed “out of his mind” and went out with the security men immediately following the incident.
