If the month of June marks the beginning of summer, the sun at this time of the year can be very dangerous for the epidermis.

June is often a very popular month for several reasons. If it marks the end of the school year for the youngest, it is also the first month of summer and a period when the sun shines a lot. In addition, the temperatures become more pleasant. This encourages many people to spending more time outdoors and enjoying the sun.

However, this habit can quickly change into cauchemar for our skin if it is not well protected. This is what dermatologists recall in a prevention campaign launched in several French departments. Baptized “Yellow June”, this operation aims to raise public awareness of the unknown dangers of this summer sunshine.

A colorful month in reference to awareness-raising operations for the various cancers

If yellow is the color of the sun, this choice of name for this prevention campaign is no coincidence. Indeed, for several years, operations intended to highlight the prevention of cancers have emerged. This is notably the case of October Rose for breast cancer and Mars Bleu for colorectal cancer.

June Yellow informs regarding skin cancers and in particular those caused by too much exposure to ultraviolet rays. Naturally produced by the sun, these are the ones responsible for skin problems. However, the majority of the population tends to underestimate them.

Many believe that the clouds are enough to create a protective barrier once morest these rays. However, it is not the case. Even worse : June is when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. This phenomenon increases the intensity of ultraviolet rays. Without suitable protection and the right reflexes, ultraviolet rays can cause severe skin damage and in the worst cases skin cancers.

How to best protect yourself from the June sun?

Dermatologists therefore invite young and old to beware of sunshine in June. Especially since the skin is no longer used to this light and this heat. They therefore recommend expose themselves gradually and outside the hottest hours to allow the skin to get used to it once more.

Beyond this recommendation, dermatologists also invite you to follow the same principles as for a tanning session at the beach. Must therefore wear covering clothes to avoid sunburn. This advice is particularly valid for the youngest who have very fragile skin.

Wear a hat, apply sunscreen and avoid the 12pm-4pm time slot are also good habits to take care of our skin.
