French President Emmanuel Macron sparked controversy in France, following he took off a valuable watch from his wrist, when he was asked regarding reforming the controversial retirement system and protests in his country, in a direct interview with France 2 and TF1.

According to French media, Macron’s watch costs 80,000 euros, and he appeared wearing it at the beginning of the meeting to remove it from his wrist while talking regarding the retirement law.

While close to Macron explained to the media, “contrary to what was rumored on social media, the president did not take off his watch in order to hide it, but because he hit it hard on the table.”

The response of the Elysee Palace came quickly, as it published an explanation on the matter, confirming that Macron took off the watch for technical reasons, that he had been wearing it regularly for more than a year and a half, and that its cost did not exceed 2,400 euros.
