Watch: In Classica International Music Festival brings together the world’s best artists at Dubai Opera

The InClassica International Festival of Classical Music has returned to Dubai for its eleventh edition, with the participation of the world’s most prominent names in the world of classical music.

The month-long music festival will be held from the 8th of May, with the attendance of 15 famous musicians, three leading orchestras, 11 conductors and 26 performances at Dubai Opera.

Every evening, a star musician performs for the audience, such as the conductor Dmitriy Yablonsky who spoke to Euronews on opening night.

“When you play music, you forget that you have back pain…or that your shoes hurt you. This great hall (Dubai Opera) and all the musical instruments to share music with the audience in Dubai, it’s a great idea from festival president Konstantin Ichkhanov,” he says.

This season’s shows include famous classics by Verdi, Beethoven and Debussy, to name a few as well as contemporary masterpieces by composer Alexei Schur.

Leading orchestras, composers, musicians and artists from all over the world have arrived in Dubai to take part in In Classica 2022, and the language they speak is one: music.

Speaking to Euronews, Russian violinist Sergei Krylov said, “I love music for the harmony it makes and the impression it creates, and for many different reasons.”

“The globalization of music is very important. The exchange between cultures is also important. This festival represents an international edifice for the search for music full of great ideas that connect different cultures.”

South Korean pianist San Woo Yi-kun, one of the best soloists in the world and winner of many awards such as the 13th Van Cleburne International Piano Prize in 2009 and the 2011 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition Award, was among the participants.

“Playing calms him down in a fast-paced world,” he says. “Sometimes hectic life makes you forget the most important things… We play lots of pieces over and over, but I remind myself to be honest with the feelings and be honest.”

The festival is also an opportunity for emerging artists to present their performances alongside international music stars at In Classica.

One such emerging was the famous Italian conductor Gianluca Marciano, who has been described as “unabashedly enthusiastic” due to his energetic style.

“It’s always good to hear a lot of good definitions regarding you,” Gianluca told Euronews. “Reviews are important because I like to check the score in my performance and see how I can do better.”

The presence of critics at the event does not put pressure on Gianluca, who asserts that “we must criticize ourselves and analyze what we did every night following the party because our audience is the most important.”
