RIED/TUMELTSHAM. To start the new season with seven live opera broadcasts from the New York Met, Star Movie will show the opera “Florencia en el Amazonas” by Mexican composer Daniel Catán on Saturday, December 9th at 7 p.m.
Catán’s 1996 opera tells the enchanting story of a Brazilian opera diva who returns to her homeland to perform at the legendary Manaus Opera House – and to search for her lover lost in the jungle. The libretto uses, among other things, motifs from Gabriel García Márquez’s novel “Love in the Time of Cholera”. The music is melodic, lushly orchestrated and somewhat reminiscent of the operas of Giacomo Puccini. (sung in Spanish with German subtitles). Ailyn Pérez shines in the leading role.
