Al-Marsad newspaper: A report broadcast by Al-Arabiya channel highlighted the story of a young Saudi man who succeeded in transferring the Arab shawarma industry to America.
The report stated: “Azzam Al-Khuraiji joined the life of food trucks in America through his restaurant selling shawarma, which he added to his Gulf touches,” noting: “Azzam decided to open a restaurant when he felt desperate to find a shawarma that would please his mind.”
He continued, “Azzam plans to open more branches for his restaurant in order to convey the original flavor of shawarma to Arab and foreign immigrants.”
Al-Khuraiji said that he traveled to California in 2009, and did not find a shawarma that would please him, pointing out: “I learned how to make shawarma from a Shami chef in the Kingdom, and I decided to open a shawarma restaurant in California.”
The report indicated: “You can get a meal for $7, that meal that carries nostalgia for the Arab countries and Saudi Arabia.”
Azzam stated that the customers of the restaurant believed that he was Syrian and not Saudi, especially that shawarma is linked to the Syrians, explaining that the customers were surprised that a Saudi attends shawarma and they are more surprised by its taste.
