Washington: We are studying several options to respond to the relationship with Saudi Arabia, after the “OPEC Plus” decision

(CNN) — US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the US administration is studying “a number of response options” regarding US-Saudi relations following the OPEC Plus decision to reduce oil production.

“In terms of moving forward with the relationship, we are reviewing a number of options to respond,” Blinken said during a press conference in Peru on Thursday. “We are consulting closely with Congress.”

He added, “We will not do anything that would infringe on our interests, and this is first and foremost, and we will take all these interests into consideration and consult closely with all relevant stakeholders when we decide on any steps to move forward,” describing the “OPEC Plus” decision to cut production. Oil was described as “short-sighted and disappointing”.

Blinken once more highlighted what the Joe Biden administration had done to boost oil production in the United States, and said, “We have taken a number of steps over the past months in an effort to make sure of that, including withdrawing from the strategic reserve, and significantly increasing our production,” he added. Oil production in the United States is rising by regarding 500,000 barrels per day.

He added that the US administration “is looking at other steps we can take to ensure there are sufficient supplies to meet global demand.”

It is noteworthy that the “OPEC Plus” Organization said, on Wednesday, that the decision comes “in light of the uncertainty surrounding the prospects for the global economy and the oil market, and the need to strengthen the long-term guidance of the oil market,” and added that it would reduce oil production by two million barrels per day starting from November. November.

This is the largest cut since the start of the Corona epidemic, in a move that threatens to push gasoline prices higher just weeks before the US midterm elections.

The Saudi Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, confirmed in a press conference for the organization, on Wednesday, that “(OPEC +) is interested in fulfilling the commitments it made towards the global economy, stressing that it “will remain a pivotal force in achieving global economic stability.”
