Washington Post: Many Democratic Party representatives consider Kamala Harris a leading candidate instead of Biden

The newspaper quoted sources as saying, “There are growing indications that many in the Democratic Party are ready to embrace the idea that Vice President (Kamala) Harris will be at the top of their list (of candidates).”

She added that South Carolina Democrat James Clyburn, a senior House member and longtime Biden friend, has publicly endorsed Harris if Biden decides to drop out of the race. Clyburn has also called on his party colleagues to support Harris regardless of her place on the ticket.

According to the newspaper’s sources, House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has told members of the House that Harris would be the best choice to head the ticket. It added that other potential candidates to replace Biden, such as Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and California Governor Gavin Newsom, will likely not enter the race this year and will support Harris.

The American media believes that Biden’s speech in the first debate with former US President Donald Trump, which took place on the night of June 28 in Atlanta, failed.

After that, American politicians and journalists began talking regarding the possibility of the Democrats abandoning Biden’s candidacy and replacing him with another candidate. This might happen at the Democratic Party convention scheduled to be held next August.
