US President Joe Biden said today (4/15) that he wants to avoid a flare-up in the Middle East, following Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel.
“Together with our partners we crushed this attack” by Iran, Biden said, adding that he was working “for a cease-fire (in the Gaza Strip) that will bring the hostages home and prevent further escalation of the conflict.” .
Welcoming Iraqi Prime Minister Shia al-Sudani to the White House, Biden reiterated that Washington is committed to Israel’s security and, at the same time, is committed to protecting the interests of the US and its partners in the region, including Iraq.
Sudani admitted that Iraqi and US views on what is happening in the region may differ. However, the relationship between the two countries is at a critical crossroads, and he said he intends to discuss with Biden its upgrade from a military partnership to a full partnership.
