Warzone: Unable to add more maps to game due to ‘crazy’ download sizes

In an interview with streamer TeeP, Activision VP of Design Josh Bridge confirmed that the addition of new maps in Call of Duty: Warzone would not be possible, this idea being limited by the Internet connection and the storage space of the players.

“Installation and reinstallation sizes are [trop] crazy,” exclaimed Bridge. He then explains that simply removing Caldera and putting Verdansk back would mean re-downloading Warzone full.

The VP still shared that the Raven Software team would love for it to be simpler, but the size of Warzone was far too large and unfortunately not feasible.

According to him, when the developer made such a decision in the past, the fans ended up suffering. “Every time we’ve done that we’ve lost players,” Bridge explained. “Because you’re kind of like, ‘I don’t want to reupload that.'”

Not surprising, given the current size of the game. On PC, 80 GB of storage is required, while on PS5, it is 120 GB that must be freed up to Warzone.

Josh Bridge also added that the game was not designed with the intention of adding years of updates. “Verdansk was never created with the idea that 180 weapons were going to be added to it.”
