Wartsila, uphill negotiations with MSC on salaries. New meeting at Mimit

The negotiations between the unions (Fiom, Fim and Uilm) and the MSC on the sale of Wartsila are going uphill. The parties are verifying the industrial plan, the safeguarding of employment and the contractual conditions for the transition of workers from Wartsila Italia to MSC.

According to what union sources report, the company has indicated its willingness to start negotiations but would be willing to recognize the sole application of the economic and regulatory treatments of the national collective agreement for the category and the accrued seniority of the workers. In addition to this there would also be a willingness to recognize partial economic integration during redundancy and to reduce the use of social safety nets as much as possible.

In a note, Medlog, part of the MSC group, explains that «an in-depth and fruitful discussion was started with the unions. The company has listened carefully to the requests of the workers’ representatives and now all the appropriate assessments will be made with the aim of being able to bring the positions as close as possible, while taking into consideration the differences of the new industry that will settle in the plant compared to the previous one activity. In the coming weeks Medlog is confident that it will be able to reach a positive conclusion of the agreement”. To this Medlog adds that «from the point of view of the procedures that supervise the agreement with Wärtsilä, in-depth studies are underway from a technical and environmental point of view, preparatory to the definitive signature».

For the unions, the proposals are still insufficient. On the table for Fim, Fiom and Uilm there must be the safeguarding of the effects of the company bargaining in force for all ex-Wartsila workers.

Given the distance between the parties, the confrontation was adjourned until May 28th.
