Warsaw. Flooded property in Wilanów

In Błonia Wilanowskie, a flood embankment broke on the Służewiecki Stream. Water flooded into the property on Melonowa Street.

As TVN24 reporter Małgorzata Mielcarek reported, the water that flooded the property fortunately did not penetrate the building. The house is secured with sandbags.

The most difficult situation is in the area of Arbuzowa and Melonowa streets. – Residents of properties located in this area cannot get out freely. We saw people in waders or simply barefoot and in shorts, because the water reaches up to mid-thigh – said Mielcarek.

As she noted, the situation is gradually improving. The water level in the stream is not rising, so firefighters could start pumping it out of the property.

The Służewiecki Stream flooded

As a result of heavy rains that passed through Warsaw during the night, the flood embankment at the Służewiecki Stream was breached.

– We have been on site since 7 a.m. The water from the Służewiecki Stream has broken through the riverbed and is threatening the neighbouring buildings. These are mainly single-family houses – Michał Konopka from the Warsaw Fire Department said earlier in an interview with a TVN24 reporter.

To prevent water from entering homes, firefighters have deployed special flood sleeves. Sandbags are being placed along the stream bed.
