50 new trees and several hundred shrubs were planted by the inhabitants of Targówek on ul. Kondratowicz. Together with thousands of perennials and vines, one of Targówek’s main thoroughfares will become an “alley of a thousand trees”.

From September 2022, travelers can use the next three stations on the Bródno section of the second metro line. After the completion of the underground works, revitalization works on the surface were started – between the Kondratowicza and Bródno stations. In addition to works related to improving road traffic (on the section from ul. Rembielińska to św. Wincentego), in the autumn of last year the first plantings were made at the main thoroughfare crossing Targówek.

In total, road workers are planting 491 trees along the street, which will join the approx. 200 trees planted as part of the construction of the subway and approx. 300 trees that grew here earlier. Part of the greening project is the “Adoptuj tree na Kondratowicza” campaign – on Saturday, April 15, residents “planted” 50 new trees and several hundred shrubs here.

Plane trees, ashes and lime trees

– We promised that Kondratowicza Street – following the metro station was commissioned – would change its appearance. And this is happening because we are planting several hundred new trees here. Thanks to this, this street will become one of the most beautiful in Warsaw – also thanks to its inhabitants – said Rafał Trzaskowski on Thursday, April 13. The mayor of Warsaw also planted his tree here, which was marked with a special plaque.

The same name plates – to be mounted under the tree – were prepared by the Municipal Roads Authority for all those who reported their participation in the “Adopt a tree on Kondratowicza” campaign.

In total, this year there will be: 39 maples, 129 common ashes, 71 silver lindens “Varsaviensis”, 2 small-leaved lindens “Greenspire”, 208 maples, 2 apple trees, 7 red chestnuts, 21 serrated cherries and 12 balsams.

Wide with low green

– The trees, due to their considerable size (approx. 9 m), were already pre-set in the ground. People adopting their plant had to choose a specific piece, cover it with soil, cover it with bark and water it. The moment crowning the work was the installation of the plaque. The planting and assembly process was supervised by employees of the Municipal Roads Authority and the Warsaw Road Repair and Maintenance Department – explains Łukasz Puchalski, director of ZDM.

On ul. Kondratowicza, the inhabitants also planted shrubs. After all plantings are completed, there will be as many as 87,851 shrubs and vines and 12,831 perennials. The street will be decorated with exactly 100,682 pieces of such species as: Chenault’s snow lily, common sea buckthorn, common ivy and rowan tawlin. There will also be shiny cotoneaster hedges (31,386 bushes). Lawns with a total area of 2,643 sq m and a flower meadow of 4,016 sq m will be sown.
