Rafał Trzaskowski issued an order according to which the management of the Powder Magazine in Żoliborz in Żeromski Park will be taken over by the Warsaw Property Management.

So far, the property has been owned by the Green Management Board of the Capital City of Warsaw. of Warsaw.
The powder magazine is to be once more not only a gastronomic point, but also a place around which the cultural life of the district will focus. Thus, Trzaskowski listened to the voices of residents who raised numerous objections to the selection procedure. The mayor of Warsaw appointed his deputy, Tomasz Bratek, to supervise the entire procedure.
– The powder magazine is a place that has become a permanent part of the Żoliborz fabric. We are fully aware of the important role it played in the life of this district. It wasn’t just another food outlet, it was also the center of cultural life. Places that enliven urban space, even in times of progressing social isolation, should be taken care of. It’s time to sort out matters related to the Prochownia and restore this place as soon as possible in the form that many residents are waiting for – says Rafał Trzaskowski, Mayor of Warsaw.
Only the rent amount will change. This is to be adjusted to the rates applicable in similar places. Of course, it will still take into account the culture-forming nature of the place, but it will not be as blatantly low as it used to be.
The creator of the place will be invited to talks regarding running the premises in the first place. As Vice Mayor Tomasz Bratek points out: the previous lessee’s experience was a significant contribution to the creation of the Powder House.
– We will invite the creator of the Powder Magazine for talks. I hope that we will be able to work out the principles of cooperation that will ensure a better future for this place. The priority is to adapt it to the needs and expectations of Żoliborz residents – both guests of the Prochownia and local residents. They reported the need to introduce corrections in the way the premises operate. The powder magazine is supposed to unite, not divide, and we will be guided by this principle – adds Bratek.
If he does not take advantage of the offer, the city will hold an open competition, inviting the social side to the competition committee. Throughout the procedure, the emphasis is to be placed primarily on ensuring full transparency, both when establishing cooperation with the lessee and at the later stages of the operation of the Powder Magazine. The Town Hall is also working on the use of the second facility located in the Park, i.e. the Southern Powder House – it does not exclude the use of this facility for lease as well.
– We hope that we will be able to return to cooperation with the creator of this iconic place. If we meet with a refusal, we will make every effort to comply with the principles of equal access when selecting the next tenant – assures Vice Mayor Tomasz Bratek.
