Warren Babika Babika gets 25 years in prison for killing his shopkeeper –

His fate was finally decided by the Court of First Instance of Port-Gentil, during the 2e criminal hearing on March 18. He is Warren Trésor Babika Babika alias Flamzy, a young Gabonese in his late thirties, prosecuted by the public prosecutor for “robbery, accessory to murder and murder”.

The facts date back to March 18, 2016 in the Transfo district located in 2e district of Port-Gentil. It was following 10 p.m. when Warren Trésor Babika Babika alias Flamzy and Éric Ossoumou alias SD 10 kolos, went to rob Moussa Hamet. It was around 6 a.m. that the lifeless body of the neighborhood shopkeeper was found by bread delivery man Touré Mamadou from the Siby bakery.

According to investigators, the victim, in her late fifties, was found tied up, her feet and hands tied with a sheet and her body full of bruises. The alleged accused, asking their prey for a pack of cigarettes, took the opportunity to take action by immobilizing their counterpart using a hold called: “key 14”. A gesture which led to the death of the Senegalese subject. Their crime accomplished, they are distributed with several telephone recharge cards and a sum exceeding 300,000 FCFA.

Thus, the representative of the Senegalese community Dia Demba filing a complaint demanding justice for his brother, allowed the sleuths of the Judicial Police to get their hands on Warren Trésor Babika Babika and his accomplice Éric Ossoumou. During interrogations the mastermind of this affair Flamzy admitted according to the minutes that ‘his friend Éric Ossoumou was looking for money since his girlfriend had lost her father in Lambaréné’.

Questioned Éric Ossoumou affirmed according to the minutes that “it was Warren who had chosen to rob his local shopkeeper”. Despite this version of the facts, Warren Trésor Babika Babika remained tangible in his statements before the investigating magistrates, even though his accomplice denied the facts.

Hoping to regain freedom from his cell through his prayers, Éric Ossoumou lost his life following a medical infection on July 14, 2023. Alone at the helm and seeing the weight of the death of the Senegalese subject weighing on him, Warren Trésor Babika Babika, trying to escape the net of justice, denied having helped her friend during this burglary which cost the trader his life.

During his trial, the public prosecutor demanded the guilt of the accused and his sentence to life imprisonment. If the defense requested mitigating circumstances for its client, dura lex sed lex; “the law is harsh, but it is the law”, Warren Trésor Babika Babika was sentenced to 25 years in prison and a fine of 250,000 FCFA. With regard to Éric Ossoumou, the extinction of public action was pronounced, following his death.
