If you keep having pain ‘here’ along with abdominal pain… Pancreatic cancer suspected

This is because most cases are discovered at a late stage when no one can do anything regarding it. For this reason, it is also called the ‘silent organ’ along with the liver. Nevertheless, there are ‘danger signs’ that appear when the pancreas deteriorates. Let’s look at the five representative danger signals that pancreatic cancer sends.

◇Extreme abdominal pain and back pain
Abdominal pain is a typical symptom of pancreatic cancer and acute pancreatitis. However, because the pancreas is located close to the back, pain in the back may occur along with abdominal pain. If abdominal pain lasts for several weeks and is accompanied by indigestion, loss of appetite, decreased food intake due to pain, and weight loss, it may be a sign of pancreatic cancer.

◇ Blood sugar that was under control suddenly rises
Diabetes can occur as both a cause and a result of pancreatic cancer. In general, if diabetes suddenly develops without a family history in people over the age of 50, it is best to check for pancreatic cancer. Among the cells of the pancreas, beta cells have an endocrine function by secreting insulin, which regulates blood sugar levels. As pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer progresses, pancreatic cells are destroyed and these beta cells are also destroyed. This can cause diabetes, or even well-controlled diabetes can become severe. In fact, 90% of patients with chronic pancreatitis develop diabetes as the disease progresses. Therefore, if you are not obese and have suddenly developed diabetes over the age of 50 without any special risk factors such as family history, or if your existing diabetes has suddenly worsened without any special cause, you should get tested for pancreatic cancer.

◇Eyes turn yellow
Jaundice, in which the eyes turn yellow, is also a suspicious symptom. The cause is bilirubin pigment remaining in the body. Jaundice usually occurs when pancreatic cancer has progressed to a large extent, but if the cancer develops in a location where bile flows from the biliary tract to the duodenum, jaundice can occur even in the early stages of the disease. This is because when bile stagnates, a pigment called bilirubin contained in bile accumulates on the skin, eyes, etc. In addition, you may experience itchy skin or discharge brown urine similar to cola or dark beer.

◇Stools become whiter than before
If you develop pancreatic cancer, your stool may turn whiter than before. This is because normal excretion of bile becomes difficult. The reason why normal stool is brown is because of bile. Bile is produced in the liver and moves through the biliary tract to the duodenum. Here, following meeting food, it goes down to the intestines. When bile meets intestinal bacteria, it turns brown, ocher, or yellow. However, if bile is not excreted properly due to pancreatic cancer, bile is not mixed in the stool and the stool looks like lumps of white rice or mashed tofu. In addition, the stool may be greasy, have a foul odor, and may not be easily flushed out even when the toilet is flushed.

◇I feel sick when I eat fatty foods.
Because the pancreas is the only digestive organ that produces enzymes that help break down fat, diseases that affect the pancreas reduce the body’s ability to digest fat. This can lead to nausea, and undigested and unabsorbed fat can be excreted in the stool, causing diarrhea due to steatorrhea. In particular, fatty burgers can cause nausea, as can avocados and nuts, which are high in fat. Pizza can also be problematic for patients with damaged pancreas.
