It was stated in Al-Qabas:
After the President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, announced the start of the return of the displaced Syrians starting next week, international conservative positions were observed, warning once morest proceeding with this file in light of the current situation in Syria. Amnesty International called on Lebanon to stop implementing the plan to return Syrian refugees to their country.
The file of the displaced attended the visit of the French Foreign Minister to Lebanon last Friday, where she confirmed that there is an understanding of Lebanon’s position, noting that there are worrying data regarding the safety of the displaced in Syria, and that unless the political situation improves there, it is very difficult for a massive return of the displaced.
In parallel, the Minister of the Displaced, Issam Sharaf El-Din, called on international organizations to stop the cash aid that is paid in Beirut to the displaced and to pay it in Syria.
The Director-General of Public Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, had confirmed the resumption of the repatriation of refugees next week according to the previously used mechanism, noting that the next batch will include 1,600 people, explaining that the Lebanese side is still waiting for the response of the Syrian authorities to decide on the dates.
