Police in Burlington, Vermont, have warned fellow citizens traveling to Montreal following GPS tracking devices were discovered on cars returning home.
In a press release released last Monday, the police explained that at least two citizens discovered AirTags hidden on their vehicle following a visit to the Metropolis in recent months.
“Canadian authorities know that this technology is used for criminal activities,” warned Burlington police, alluding, without naming it, to the scourge of car thefts in Quebec and Ontario.
Authorities have urged motorists who discover an AirTags to call the police, so that an officer can come and collect the evidence.
Popular with car owners who can track the location of their property anywhere, AirTags and other devices have also become an essential tool for thieves. They can ask when they come across a vehicle that interests them, in a parking lot for example, in order to possibly find the address of the vehicle’s owner. They can then go and steal the keys directly from the house.
