The New Year weekend promises to be slippery and wet in several regions of Quebec, where freezing rain is expected on Friday.
A freezing rain warning is currently in effect for Minganie, Parc national de la Gaspésie – Murdochville, the Manicouagan River and Sept-Îles – Port-Cartier.
Between 1 and 3 millimeters of ice are expected from Friday evening until Saturday morning in these regions.
“Surfaces, such as roads, streets, sidewalks and parking lots, might become icy and slippery. Exercise caution when walking or driving in affected areas,” Environment Canada warned on its website.
Freezing drizzle is also expected in Saguenay on Friday morning.
In the greater Montreal area and in western Quebec, rain and clouds will dot the sky from Friday to Sunday with temperatures mostly above zero.
In central Quebec, the New Year’s countdown will take place in the rain, while between 5 and 10 mm of rain are expected on Saturday in the Capitale-Nationale.
