Warning for those wishing to have children…a “car feature” that affects men’s fertility

In the winter and spring, the temperature is low in many countries, which prompts car drivers to turn on the seat heating feature to combat the cold, but this feature has a lot of harm to men, according to the American newspaper “New York Post”.

According to the newspaper, doctors urge men not to turn on this feature while they are driving, for fear that it will lead to an increase in the temperature of the testicles, which would negatively affect sperm production.

In this regard, Alan Pacey, a professor at the University of Manchester, explained that it has become known that “increasing the temperature of the testicles through wearing tight pants or sitting for a long time behind the wheel of a car can reduce sperm production.”

Men’s fertility depends on their childhood circumstances (study)

A recent scientific study conducted at Durham University in Britain showed that the environmental conditions that men lived in as children affected their levels of the male hormone (testosterone).

In statements to the British Daily Mail newspaper, the doctor also advised men to stay away from using heated electric blankets during the winter, because they have the same negative effects, as he put it.

“By logical extension, I imagine using heated car seats or electric blankets during a cold snap might do the same thing,” he said.

He continued: “My advice to any man planning to have children is to turn off heated car seats and use electric blankets.”

In the same context, Channa Jayasena, a professor of medicine at Imperial College London, said: “Anything that heats the testicles can damage some sperm, making them less likely to fertilize the egg (and thus be able to reproduce).”

A new study confirms: low sperm concentration in men all over the world

A large study, the results of which were published on Tuesday, concluded that sperm concentration, a factor in male fertility, has declined significantly around the world in recent decades.

She also pointed out that “those who do most harm to themselves in this area are those who constantly ride bicycles while wearing tight pants designated for this sport.”

She continued: “Little and limited use of car seat heating or electric blankets will not have that significant negative impact.”

However, it is not only heat that affects sperm production, as a study conducted by Harvard University, last year, revealed that some professions can affect men’s fertility.

The research found that blue-collar workers (such as construction and factory workers) who work in physically demanding jobs have approximately 50 percent higher sperm than their white-collar counterparts who work in offices.

The specialist in reproductive sciences and supervisor of that study, Lydia Minguez Alarcón, said in a press release: “We already know that exercise is linked to multiple health benefits in humans… but few studies have looked at how occupational factors contribute to these benefits.”
