The Egyptian Medicines Authority warned of 3 medications on the market during the month of October, either counterfeit or exported that did not conform to specifications, calling for an investigation to seize and seize any of them that may be found in the local market and government units.

The first of these warnings was in Circular No. 27 of 2023, regarding one of the batches of the drug “Deltaclav – Syrup”, which bears the number: 21845, produced by the Misr Pharmaceuticals Factory, attributing this to the fact that the product was issued for non-conformity with that batch by the Authority’s laboratories. Egyptian medicine.

The drug is used to treat many different infections caused by bacteria, such as pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, and skin infections.

The second warning was regarding the presence of fraudulent packaging for a pharmaceutical preparation called “Erbitux Injection,” which is used to treat colorectal cancer and head and neck cancer.

The awareness circular issued by the Authority regarding this drug stated: “We advise citizens and medical service providers to review the containers of Erbitux 500mg/100ml solution for infusion, due to the manufacturer’s reporting of the specifications of the containers that are not specific to the Egyptian market.”

The Drug Authority identified the packages bearing the batch number “19:H01G”, produced by “MERCK”.

The third warning was a request by the Egyptian Medicines Authority, which asked citizens and medical service providers to review packages of a preparation for treating severe asthma cases, specific to the drug “FASENRA 30 MG SIRINGA PRERIEMPITA”, due to the manufacturer’s notification regarding the specifications of the packages that do not belong to the Egyptian market, for lot number “NL0138”. Manufactured by AstraZeneca.

The Egyptian Medicines Authority pointed out the apparent difference between the original packages and the packages that do not belong to the market, which is represented in the absence of any data indicating official import for circulation within the country, and the language used is other than Arabic and English.
