Warner Bros. Studios showed scenes for the anticipated second part of the movie “Joker” during the “CinemaCon” festival held in Las Vegas, as the production company attempts to capitalize on the success achieved by the “Barbie” movie last year.
Directed by Todd Phillips, “Joker: Folie A Deux” is a sequel to the controversial original film, in which Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for his role.
“Joker” (2019) deals with the dark and violent story of Arthur Fleck, Batman’s arch-enemy, dividing audiences by presenting the deadly villain as a hero while raising fears that he may be an inspiration for large-scale killings.
In the second part, expected to be released in October, which is classified as a musical film, international pop star Lady Gaga plays the starring role alongside Phoenix.
During the presentation of the promotional clip for the film, Todd Phillips explained that “music is an essential element in the work,” indicating that “Joker” will not be very far from the character of the original work.
In the trailer, “Joker”, played by Phoenix, and “Harley Quinn” (Lady Gaga) meet in an asylum before they plan to escape. Other scenes show the two stars dancing romantically under the moonlight on the roof of a building.
The “CinemaCon” festival represents an opportunity for Hollywood studios to showcase their upcoming work to cinema owners around the world.
This cinematic event is being held in light of expectations of a decline in box office revenues this year, especially due to the recent strike of actors and screenwriters in Hollywood.
The sector is also experiencing difficulty emerging from five difficult years, which witnessed in particular the Covid-19 pandemic and the emergence of streaming platforms.
