The Taipei Municipal Bureau of Transportation intends to include 55,000 parking spaces for locomotives on major roads in the city center from July. The bureau admitted that Ke wanted to adopt the strategy of “boiled frogs in warm water”. In the future, the 55,000 locomotives will be gradually promoted, and the tolls will be implemented in stages. After reporting to the mayor in May, the toll schedule for the third stage of main roads will be announced to the public.
Since 2019, the Transportation Bureau has successively implemented locomotive charges in phases. The first phase is the business district, and the second phase is around the MRT station. At present, the city’s locomotive charges are as high as 66,000. The third stage focuses on the roads above 12 meters in the city center, such as Zhongxiao East Road and Xinyi Road, which are expected to increase by 55,000 toll cars.
City Councilor Wang Zhibing asked regarding the implementation and planning of the policy yesterday, emphasizing that there is no problem with the policy direction of the suspension office, but the timing is very important. After all, those who ride motorcycles are hard-working commuters. The results should be analyzed before charging, not just driving the vehicle from point A. Rushing to point B will only increase the burden on the public and the impact on the community; city councilor Li Mingxian also agrees, thinking that it may be inappropriate to charge fees for all 55,000 locomotives in the city.
In this regard, Li Kunzhen, Director of Suspension Control, said that Ke Wenzhe had instructed that the policy should be carried out step by step in the traffic meeting. When the first and second stages were gradually promoted, Mayor Ke knew that it was “boiled frogs in warm water”, so he pushed forward on a small scale.
But Wang Zhibing asked, “He doesn’t know if the third stage is to cook in one pot?” Chen Xuetai said frankly that the 55,000 locomotive grid charging plan was not reported in advance, but was directly put forward in the traffic report, but Ke Wenzhe thought that the time between now and July was too short. It is impossible to do enough decree propaganda. In the future, 55,000 locomotives will be subdivided into different areas, and then gradually promoted.
Li Kunzhen added that in the past, charging was started in business districts, buses and MRT lines, because the area must be a public transportation development area. The suspension management office is expected to report the planning content to the city government in May and analyze suitable road sections. , but following the fee volume is reduced, it can be implemented as soon as July, but the time is uncertain and may be delayed.
