The average air temperature in Latvia last month was +17.0 degrees, which is 1.8 degrees higher than the average temperature in 1991-2020, reports the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
The lowest air temperature was recorded on June 10 in Madona – +2.4 degrees, and the hottest day was June 28, when in Jekabpils and Mersrags the thermometer rose to +32.9 degrees.
At the end of the month, 19 heat records were broken. June 28 was the first tropical night this summer – the air temperature in the center of Riga, as well as at observation stations in Mersrags and Ventspils, did not fall below +20 degrees.
Precipitation was uneven: in Kurzeme there was more, and in most of the country it was less than normal.
On some days and in some places thunderstorms, hail and hurricanes were observed. At the beginning of the month, heavy rain washed away the road in Puze, and in Rezekne region several domestic ducks were struck by lightning. On June 19, heavy rain and strong winds were observed in Daugavpils and other parts of Latgale, which broke trees and damaged buildings.
