A Russian military parade on Ukrainian soil?
Another rumor has been widely relayed in recent hours on social networks. Russia would prepare a “victory parade” in the heart of the devastated city of Mariupol, Ukraine, by the Sea of Azov. This city pounded for weeks, under siege, might it be presented by Moscow as “a liberated city” during this day of celebration and serve as a showcase for an alleged victory on the ground?
It was first the Ukrainian intelligence services (GUR) who mentioned a series of clues. Elements that would suggest that this project is on the Kremlin table. On the Telegram channel of the GUR, we can read that the deputy director of the Russian presidential administration, Sergei Kirienko, arrived in Mariupol to prepare for these ceremonies on May 9.
Another element: in recent hours, the APTN news agency has been able to witness disturbing scenes in the devastated streets of Mariupol. People presented as “volunteers” were cleaning up to, they said, “clean up the city”. Some cleared the rubble using diggers or street brushes. Others were trying to repair roadside electrical installations, still others were restoring battle-damaged monuments or placing Russian flags on electricity poles. “We are offering our help as part of this humanitarian mission to restore the city’s parks and monuments in view of May 9.” explained Denis, a “volunteer” interviewed by the APNT journalist. The goal, he explained, is to allow “Citizens to celebrate this public holiday”.
