French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday asked member countries of the World Health Assembly (WHO) to support a resolution condemning Russia’s military aggression once morest Ukraine, and “reaffirmed the full solidarity of France and of the European Union with Ukraine”.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the military aggression committed by Russia, with the culpable complicity of Belarus”, launched the president in a video message at the opening of the Assembly, which will meet all week in Geneva. “The consequences of this war are devastating, in terms of health, on the populations, on the establishments and on the health personnel, who are targeted”, denounced Emmanuel Macron. “I call on all member states to support the resolution presented by Ukraine”, already supported by the main allies including France, the EU and the United States.
The text should be adopted on Tuesday but if it strongly condemns Russia, it does not provide “in any case (its) expulsion”, argued a Western diplomat, recalling that the sanctions once morest a member country authorized by the WHO regulations are “very low”.
