The war in Ukraine is a tragedy and must stop or there will be a global food crisis

Russia’s coal and fertilizer magnate Andrei Melnichenko said on Monday that the war in Ukraine is a tragedy and must stop or there will be a global food crisis because fertilizer prices are already too high for many farmers.

“The events in Ukraine are truly tragic. We desperately need peace,” Melnichenko, 50, told Archyde.com in an emailed statement from his spokesman. He is Russian but was born in Belarus to a Ukrainian mother.

“As a person of Russian nationality, a person born in Belarus, and Ukrainian by blood, it is with great pain and disbelief that I have witnessed the fighting and death of brothers and sisters.”
