War in Ukraine: “The worst may be ahead of us”, warns Le Drian

“We can fear a logic of siege” in the war led by Russia in Ukraine, and “it is possible that the worst is ahead of us”, worried Thursday the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, while the Russian army has surrounded several Ukrainian cities which it is pounding.

“We can fear a logic of siege”, to which “the Russians are accustomed”, warned the head of French diplomacy on France 2. “The disaster continues and the despicable aggression of Russia continues”. “Remember Aleppo, Grozny,” he said, referring to these two cities in Syria and Chechnya destroyed by Russian bombs in recent decades.

“I have no figures to announce. But the war is causing hundreds of deaths, including on the Russian side,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Trip to Moldova

“About a thousand French and dual nationals are still in Ukraine. We always advise them to exit through the southern route,” he adds. “We follow them all individually. These French people are in direct contact with our embassy. France remains present in Ukraine,” he assures us.

“We are as determined as Vladimir Putin, maybe even more. We are united, united and quick in the sanctions”, maintains Jean-Yves Le Drian, believing that “the Europe of yesterday is already no longer the same as today”.
