Poland decided on Tuesday evening to raise the alert level of certain military units, the government spokesman announced. He also specified that his country was considering the activation of article 4 of the NATO treaty.
Two people died in an explosion in Przewodow, a village in eastern Poland near the border with Ukraine, Polish firefighters said on Tuesday. Quoted by the Associated Press, a US intelligence official said the explosion was caused by Russian missiles that fell in Poland, a member of NATO. Several European officials, including Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, have also blamed Russia.
In Washington, the White House and the Pentagon said they were unable to confirm this information. The United States is working to gather information with Polish authorities and will then determine what appropriate action to take, the US presidency said. Air defense sirens sounded across Ukraine shortly before 3:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. GMT). A few minutes later, explosions were heard in kyiv, Lviv (west) and Kharkiv (northeast). The last Russian strike on kyiv dates back to October 17.
The Russian occupiers announced on Tuesday that they had withdrawn from the town of Nova Kakhovka, accusing kyiv forces of bombarding this town located in southern Ukraine near a strategic hydroelectric dam.
