War in Ukraine: shot dead by Russians shouting “Glory to Ukraine”, the soldier was not Ukrainian

The video went viral. A few days ago, the Russians posted a video on social media in which they coldly slaughtered a ukrainian soldier. A soldier who died shouting “Slava Ukraini” (“Glory to Ukraine”) and became the symbol of the resistance of an entire country. President Volodymyr Zelensky even named him a post-mortem Hero of the Nation.

We now know who this famous soldier is. He was called Oleksandr Matsievskyi. He was a sniper in the 163rd battalion of the 119th territorial defense brigade in the Chernihiv region (Ukraine). Aged 42, he was above all… a Moldovan citizen.

In fact, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry strongly condemned Oleksandr’s murder. Stating in a press release that this was a war crime that might violate international law. Moldova, a state located between Ukraine and Romania, took the opportunity to denounce this war and reaffirm its support for Ukraine.
