Saudi Arabia will organize a conference in early August aimed at encourage emerging countries such as India and Brazil to side with Ukraine and the West in the peace talks on the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Thirty countries have been invited to the peace conference, scheduled for August 5 and 6 in Jeddah, reports the Wall Street Journal.
Western allies such as the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom hope convince influential emerging countries such as India, Brazil and Indonesia to rally behind Ukraine’s demands for peace, while many emerging countries are taking a neutral stance on the conflict for the time being.
The conference, which will be attended by Ukraine but not Russia, should pave the way for a world summit for peace later this year.
It follows a previous meeting held at the end of June in Copenhagen and attended by Brazil, India and Turkey. US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivanhad then gone there, and this time he would intend to attend.
