The 23 Russian billionaires included in the list of the 500 richest people in the world have lost together, following a year of war in Ukraine, 67 billion dollars or a fifth of their accumulated fortune.
On February 23, 2022, the day before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the wealth of the 23 richest Russians stood at $339 billion.
The biggest loser is Alexei Mordashov, owner of steel giant Severstal. His estate has lost $6.7 billion since the start of the war. But with an estimated wealth of $19.8 billion, he remains the fourth richest Russian.
On the other hand, other wealthy Russians have seen their assets grow, like Andrey Guryev, thanks to the rise in the valuation of the PhosAgro group, a major fertilizer producer. Guryev is the company’s founder and largest shareholder.
