War in Ukraine: Grain magnate, one of Ukraine’s richest men killed by Russian bomb in his sleep

Oleksiy Vadaturskyi, 74, and his wife were victims of a Russian bombardment on the city of Mykolaiv.

Was Oleksiy Vadaturskyi targeted by the Russian missile that destroyed his home in the southern city of Mykolaiv? For those close to the Ukrainian presidency, there is no doubt the grain magnate was targeted, with the missile hitting the bedroom the couple was sleeping in at that time of night leaving them with no chance of survival.

Aged 74, Oleksiy Vadaturskyi was the owner of Nibulon, a grain exporting company. According to the BBChis wife, Raisa, is also among the victims of this bombardment which also affected a hotel, a sports complex, two schools and a gas station and some homes.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke of a great loss following the announcement of the death of the person who had received the “Hero of Ukraine” award.

Vadaturskyi’s fortune was estimated at $450 million. He was a major player in the Ukrainian grain export industry whose traffic has just resumed.

The city of Mykolaiv is on the main road to Odessa, Ukraine’s largest port on the Black Sea.
